Cycling

Under guidance of the Namibian Cycling Federation different national and international cycling tournaments are held every year in Namibia and in Windhoek. The most well known African cyclists and continental road racing champion is the Namibian superstar Dan Craven.

The biggest competitions are:

  • "Pick 'n Pay Cycle Classic" is the largest annual cycle event in Namibia with more than 1,500 participating cyclists (distance between 20 and 200 km).
  • "Nedbank Cycle Challange" held every year around Valentine's Day, in 2010 already for the 26th time. More than 1,300 cyclists were participating in 2009, competing at distances between 20 and 75 km.
  • "Tour de Windhoek"
  • "National Time Trail Championships"

Hotel Tip

Feel like a German King

(c) Heinitzburg Heinitzburg (originally Heynitzburg, German for "Heinitz' castle") is one of the three castles in Windhoek. It was built in 1914 by architect Wilhelm Sander. It is today used as an outstanding hotel with one of the best restaurants in Namibia. The hotel is a member of the Relais & Chateaux group.
