The Windhoek Guide - Your Guide to Namibia's Capital

In Windhoek one can buy everything that is also available in supermarkets in Europa, the USA or South Africa. Large international chains are present in Windhoek besides the well known local chains. They all sell to a large extent Namibian and South African products, while most of them also have a section with imported goods mainly from Germany. Meat is sold in these markets as well as directly at a butchery. Currently only one fish shop exists in Windhoek, so that at most other places frozen fish is sold. Beverages are sold in supermarkets, except for alcohol other than wine and beer. Alcohol is generally only on sale from Monday until Saturday lunch time, while hard liquor can only be bought in liquor stores (often called "bottle store" in Namibia).

A good option to by "green" food is the weekly Green Market at Uhland St opposite Wilde Eend Nursery. Every Saturday from 9 to 12 organic food is on sale.
