Walking Trails
Besides exploring the centre of Windhoek on foot, the City of Windhoek has identified 10 different Walking Trails. These are thus suitable for any age, however, some of them go up and down the hills.
- Auasblick Mountain View offers long trails for several days.
- Avis Dam is great and very popular for walking and offers about 2.5 km long trails (N$ 10 entrance fee)
- Eros Feste, starts/ends at Amasoniet Street or Opaal Street and is about 3.5 km long
- Goreangab Dam, at Eveline & Monica Street, 1.5 km long (not recommended due to safety)
- The Heroe's Acre Trail is approx. 5 km long and starts at the parking lot
- Hofmeyer Walk (Aloe Trail) between Sinclair Road or Orban Street (1.2 km) is one of the most popular walks in Windhoek (do never walk alone due to safety)
- Kleine Kuppe is a one kilometre trail starting/ending at Duwiseb Street or Okondeka Street
- Ox-Wagon Trail, starts/ends at Anna Street or Olaf Palme Street and is about 2 km long
- Quarry Walk, 1.5 km – Van Coller Street
- Van Rhijn Dam is a short trail (600 m) starting/ending at Pabst Street
- National Botanical Garden
- Haven Zoological Park
- Daan Viljoen Game Reserve
Hotel Tip
Feel like a German King
Heinitzburg (originally Heynitzburg, German for "Heinitz' castle") is one of the three castles in Windhoek. It was built in 1914 by architect Wilhelm Sander. It is today used as an outstanding hotel with one of the best restaurants in Namibia. The hotel is a member of the Relais & Chateaux group.
