The National Museum of Namibia is the largest museum complex in the country. The museum is state-owned and does a lot of research with private support.

The museum is located in two buildings, whereas the historical and national section at the Alte Feste is the most well known one.The natural science and zoological exhibition can be found at the Owela Museum. It houses 1.5 million zoological exhibits and 4,120 artifacts.

The National Museum has its head office at Robert Mugabe Avenue in the colonial "Kaiserliche Realschule" (Emperor's Secondary School) building opposite of Alte Feste. The museum was established in 1990, however, it is based on the "National Museum" of the German colonial government.
