The Windhoek Guide - Your Guide to Namibia's Capital

The Independence Memorial Museum will be the newest addition to Windhoek's museum landscape. It was built in 2009 and supposed to be opened on the 20th independence day on 21 March 2010, however, construction will only be finished towards the end of 2011. It is currently build in the historical centre of Windhoek next to the Alte Feste - which lead to many discussions, especially because the historical picture will get destroyed and the Reiterdenkmal had to move - the museum is a 40 metre high triangular setup with a large monumental statue on the northern side. It is build by a North Korean construction company, just like the new State House and Heroe's Acre. The monument and museum will be a remembrance sight for the Namibian independence war. It will include a high-up restaurant.
