In general the City of Windhoek is the most important public administration when moving to or living in Windhoek. Here one can apply for city services and pay their bills. The City is responsible for everything around waste disposal, water, electricity, sewerage, municipal taxes, dog licences and many more. The City is also sending out by eMail and publishing on its web site the monthly newsletter "Aloe". Please note that for weapon licences the Namibian Police is responsible.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is important for all matters of identification and residence in Namibia. Here applications for residency permits and visa have to be filed and ID cards as, passports, birth certificates, marriage certificates and all other civil documentation can be obtained.

SecurityMost of the single houses and complexes are secured by 24/7 security and they have individual alarm systems. The largest company in Windhoek offering this security service is G4S. If you need any manned security or alarm system with fast response, you can contact them. Smaller companies to be found in the Yellow Pages can install alarm systems, etc.

Roads AuthorityThe Roads Authority is responsible for licencing of persons and vehicles. Here you can apply for any kind of drivers licences as well as vehicle licences and special licences. They have their main office in the Northern Industrial Area, while having a small office directly in the city centre (not for all purposes). All your data and licences will be maintained by a system called NaTIS (Namibia Traffic Information System).

NBC
For the public TV and Radio in Namibia, supplied by the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, a compulsory annual licence fee has to be paid latest by 30 September of every year. The annual standard fee is N$ 204 per household. The fees can be paid at any NBC office or NamPost outlet.

Hotel Tip
Feel like a German King
Heinitzburg (originally Heynitzburg, German for "Heinitz' castle") is one of the three castles in Windhoek. It was built in 1914 by architect Wilhelm Sander. It is today used as an outstanding hotel with one of the best restaurants in Namibia. The hotel is a member of the Relais & Chateaux group.
